Hi All,

Well I have developed this head cold from the child I work with and needless to say it has now gone to my chest and I feel really unwell. Apart from the runny nose and the temperature I have a hacking cough and can't settle. I was scared to take my MTX last evening as I was afraid it would make me worse. Does anyone know if taking MTX would have made this worse.

I really hope I feel better soon, I doubt if I will make work tomorrow as I feel so low in myself. To make matters worse I go on holiday this Saturday and I so much want to be better for then. I know it is a week away but I have gotten steadily worse since Friday. My hands and fingers are aching a bit too, I try to ignore the way I am feeling but it is wearing me down. I was in bed and had to get up, I could not sleep for the cough. Thanks for reading this. Lorna x Sad

Oh Lorna - poor you. Yes, you definitely need to get the cough looked at when you;re on MTX. Try to see your GP today so that you can get on antibiotics in time to be feeling better for your hols.

Hope you managed some sleep last night - it is horrible coughing all night. Don't feel bad about not making it in to work - most people are glad we stay off if we are that bad. Try and have an easy few days and hope you are feeling much better soon XX Ailsa

Sorry to hear you are feeling so rough Lorna. I hope you managed to get some sleep. I don't think taking the MTX would make your symptoms worse, but if you suspect it's an infection, you shouldn't take it. Might be worth a visit to your GP to check your chest for infection if the cough hasn't settled down. You might need some antibiotics before you go away. It would be a good idea to take the day of work and give yourself some TLC and see if you feel any better. Take care.

Yes I agree Lorna- don't take your MTX and it sounds as if you need some anti biotics. You may need to tell your GP you are slightly immuno supressed if he isn't very clued up on RA.
YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

Hi Lorna,

Sorry you`re feeling so poorly. I agree with what others have said - off to see your GP. If you are given anti-biotics you will have to stop your MTX until the course is finished.

Hope you feel better in time for your holiday.

Hi Lorna

Sorry to hear how unwell you are feeling. Hope you get some respite soon and in good time for your hols!

Normally, unless you are prescribed antibiotics, it is okay to carry on with methotrexate. You will already have a build up in your system and it is unwise to stop/start the drug for short periods unless it's really necessary. I have always been told for normal coughs, colds and sore throats to continue with methotrexate BUT if the cold goes to your chest, there are reasons to believe you have an infection (rather than a virus) or the RA starts to flare seek medical advice.

Hope you've been able to pick up some advice from your doctor's surgery.

Oh no, poor you, Lorna!

I would have the cough checked before you go away in case it goes to your chest.

Love,

Amanda

HI All,

Thank you so much for your kind words, I called work and have arranged to stay home until Wednesday at the moment, I will see how things go. I called and left a message for my doctor to call me, he has left a prescription for antibiotics for me to collect when I go for a blood test tomorrow. He heard me coughing and said as my immune system is compromised he would leave this for me to pick up. The cough is now deep in my chest and I am coughing from the soles of my boots. I tried to be so careful at work continually washing my hands when seeing to my charge but hey ho got this cold anyway. I have really looked after myself, been in bed most of the day, and slept lots. Just had a bowl of chicken soup, seemingly the best remedy for coughs and colds. My husband came home with Thorntons Chocolates for me as a surprise seen I am not well.....ahh he is such a sweetie. Well I am going back to my bed as I feel so weak with all the coughing. Hopefully when I get the antibiotics they will help me to get on top of this. Take care all Lorna x Smile

Hi Lorna, sounds like you have a good GP at least there's a good chance the antibiotics will help and that you'll be able to enjoy your holiday. Thorntons always give me a boost when I'm ill so enjoy those as well.
Hoping you feel better in the morning.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery
Sheila

Hi Lorna,

Good to hear you've got the antibiotics to pick up tomorrow, seems as if you'll need them with that cough.
Enjoy being spoilt and keep warm , hope it's not long till you feel better.

Hi All,

I started the antibiotics this morning, I do feel a bit better today in myself, although my chest aches with all the coughing, forgot just how sore that is. I am going to go back to work on thursday all things considered. I have decided to leave off the MTX for now as the doctor gave me quite strong penicillian tablets. Its weird just how quickly the cough has died down but I hurt more than I care to mention. Im sure being in bed helped me no end, the amount I slept was unreal. Take care everyone Lorna xx Smile
